The Earl of Laphroaig and The Flying Pig duel with Tamiya's Pabulous Phantom II. The Earl of Laphroaig (Ian H), and myself are both building the new Tamiya F-4 Phantom. Being Tamiya, I'm sure this will go together faultlessly, so the all important thing for me is, a good paint job! This will be built straight from the box in sub assemblies, painting as I go (unless any aftermarket items like seat harnesses take my eye). Also, I might be tempted to add the pilot figures as they look rather nice. I know this can be frowned upon by the modelling police, but as they are not active on MHO, I feel safe from prosecution. With the Earl keeping me on my toes, I'm hoping to get it finished this year! So let the spook duel begin! ![](https://i.ibb.co/wN5W6FH/IMG-7063.png) ![](https://i.ibb.co/d7yCJh5/IMG-7064.png)

Joe, let's do this! I am really looking forward to this duel and from what I am hearing this is really a beautiful kit. Joe, you are about as precise and methodical a modeler as I know and can't wait to see you work your magic on this one. I think your idea of crew figures in the model is great, especially since Tamiya provides you with "Sundowners" helmet decals. Nothing wrong with depicting a powered-up bird getting ready to take off. Me, on the other hand, am not really methodical. ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) Actually closer to "let's throw the lasagne against the wall and see what sticks." So I think I am also going out-of-box but will be using Bullseye Decals to depict an F-4B from the "Devils Disciples" of VF-301, a reserve squadron (back in the day when squadrons could have cool names like that). However, it looks like the Bullseye profile is wrong as they have the plane depicted as a double chin lobe B but it appears she is a late model B with the single chin lobe. Anyway, let's crack some plastic. ![](https://i.ibb.co/jJfxb75/DBD9-A72-D-CED9-438-F-9-C88-61-AE9-D605399.jpg) ![](https://i.ibb.co/v1DnQRf/FC0-F5-CB7-14-E5-479-E-A6-B9-AA629425-C239.jpg) ![](https://i.ibb.co/XpYjd6L/ED3-EC4-A3-19-DD-43-AB-A648-B94-E4-FEAD44-E.jpg)

Thank you, Joe, and you will love this kit. I started on the cockpit and got the two sidewalls completed for the RIOs tub. ![](https://i.ibb.co/mcyjwqn/81375583-50-C3-4903-B1-DA-880729-BEFEB8.jpg)

I am wondering if a Spey version is in the works? It is designed with separate intakes and a separate under belly section so the Rolls Royce pieces could theoretically drop right in.
