I fiddled on with the medium yellow + gloss white in an attempt to add interest to the unicoloured Panther, which means no camo this time. Don't be shocked when you see the result on the turret, the contrast can be calmed down with a mist of gloss clear + a drop of medium yellow in a later stage. And now a couple of questions to the Tamiya Smoke users : can I apply it to prepare for washes, filters etc? Does it darken the yellow ? What does it exactly ? Or should I stick to the gloss clear ? Anyways, here it goes ... Next to modulate/mutilatie is the hull.

I always love modulation. Looks initially very extreme, but weathering always tones it down and the effect becomes quite subtle. I love what I'm seeing.
What are your planes with the smoke exactly Guy? Spraying it around the details pretty much like a pinwash? Should be no problem I guess. The smoke dries glossy, so ideal for further pinwashes. I wouldn't recommend it spraying on the whole model though. Haven't tried that but I reckon that could possibly ruin the great modulation paintwork.

Can’t answer about the Tamiya Smoke but the highlights looks fine to me. I find it can look slightly extreme when you see it in its naked glory but once you use the oil dot method it brings it altogether.

Thank you for your educative interactions my friends. Wouts, I've seen it here the use of Smoke, can't remember for sure but I think maybe our Snipersmith brotha can clear it up.

That helped a lot Paul, now I can call myself a smoke connoisseur. Still one question, when you use it for panel lining, how do you thin it down? I can imagine you don't use an agressive thinner such as laquer thinner? The hull was given the modulation style look. Tomorrow I'll move on with the paintbrushes to make the small details pop.

Same as Paul on the Smoke use.....i do use it a lot i have to say, for thinning i use 99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, that is what i use for thinning all my Tam paints, although i have to confess to now using the yellow top laquer thinner now and then, i also have Vallejo`s Smoke and i just tend to add a drop of water to it and make a wash of ya desired strenght i.e. Light/Dark etc and apply as a brush/pin wash, the latter one is the one i use the most simply because it saves me having to set the AB up......i can just plonk a drop with some tap water and hey presto!! Looking utterly fabulous indeed

Same as Boots for thinning Tamiya acrylics Guy, always with neat IPA I used to use IPA but I changed to Tamiya’s own white top thinners. It could just be a placebo but it seems to give more consistent results so I’ve stuck with it. Yes it’s a lot more expensive but in the big scheme of things the cost is negligible.

Yes it’s a lot more expensive but in the big scheme of things the cost is negligible. Another 'good to know' , thanks chap! It also has the advantage that it doesn’t smell that much! I should add that for a long time I’ve been of the view that once you find something that works for you then just stick with it. That’s why I’ve stuck with Tamiya paints. I did try a couple of sets of Vallejo and just didn’t get on with them. That was £40 well spent. Oh, and the Panther is coming on nicely.
