What? 4 years since I update this one? mmm...that's not ok LOL. At the beginning of last year I made a start on detailing the smoke stack, but never took some decent photos. So, it got almost finished and I took out the Canon for some photos. The pagoda style bridge has been detailed as well. Not everything's there just yet, but it starts to look like the bridge of the mighty Y now. The superstructure has been etcherized as well and I forgot, but it seems I primed it to look for errors. As you can see on the next photo there's a part missing on the exhaust area of the smoke stack (on of the beams or whatever one needs to call it). It got eaten by the carpet monster. So I'll need to figure a way to replicate that. Probably I'll use some thin paper soaked in ca glue. Needless to say that all those fine details were quite timeconsuming and especially nervewrecking, but in the end worth the effort I think The bridge and exhaust dry fitted on the superstructure. The stairs are a mix of Tamiya etch (which is very hard and difficult to clean up) and the Pontos stairs/ladders. I had to revert to Tamiya ones because I folded some of the Pontos stairs in the wrong direction which rendered them useless. The smaller aft 10m rangefinder has been detailed as well, though not finished yet. Some of the small triangle shaped supports were scratchbuilt since Tamiya ommitted them. The 15.5m rangefinder has been detailed as well, though still a WIP Hopefully next update won't take me 4 years again ey (atrb_partsz) Hi Wouter, Sorry to bother you again, but once again I'm struggeling with PE. Especially, regarding those rails around the funnel. What is the correct techinque? In Kagero they are one piece which means that you should "tighten" it while glueing in order to avoid the gap between the ends. Is it better with CA or Gator's Grip? Undortunately, the SOB is so damn fragile that I'm afraid I will damage it...
Thanks again and have a nice weekend!

Yeah, those rails are hard to do. I can imagine in 1/700 it's even more difficult. Generally I add a tiny bit of gel ca glue on one or two attachment points in place. This gives you some time to fiddle with it and get it in the correct position. Once I'm happy with it I use very thin ca glue and an applicator tool (I use the Glue Looper) I glue the other bits in place. You can bet on it that you'll get too much ca glue around the attachment points, there's no way around it I'm afraid. There are two ways to deal with it: or you can immediately brush some ca debonder on the glue spills. Or you can wait a bit until it hardens and gently scrape excess glue aways using a very sharp fresh scalpel blade. About the tightening bit, does it sit with the gap like this when all the attachment points are glued in place? Then this seems the pe part isn't a great fit around the model. Not sure how you would solve this though. Oh, and you need steel nerves, but I haven't found those just yet I hope this made some sense

And sorry for my late reaction, have been a little ill, so no modelling progress.

Thanks guys Almost a year later and finally an update lol. For those who don't know yet: past Friday I became a dad for the fourth time again. A little baby girl listening to the name of Eléonore (named after the great Eléonore d'Aquitaine: mom of the great historical French speaking king of England: Richard Coeur de Lion aka the Lionheart. A real powerwoman, fitting name I hope. Big sis Amélie and brothers Julien and Louis are very proud of their little sis. Anyway, I just realised today that little Eléonore has been born on the same day that Yamato sank. So, that means time was well due to finally finish a bit. I continued the assembly of the top of the pagoda. Last year I already assembled the 15.5m rangefinder with the Type 21 radar, and I glued the Hoiban low angle director in place (the small plastic round top part). Yamato had two Hoiban directors: one the main bridge tower, and one aft. There's not much difference between them, but there is a difference. And when I continued I noticed I glued the aft one in place. I was quite...angry at myself, and it took a lot of patience and dread to try to remove the wrong Hoiban from the delicate assembly. But luckily without too much damage I managed to remove it and glue the correct one in stead. After that I assembled the antenna on top (which was much less scary than it looks). It's not perfect, but still, I'm a happy bunny that this part is out of the way. And of course, always the trusty pink lighter for scale comparison And I bought something the other day that will come in handy for some fiddly plastic bit removal of the sprue. The Meng side cutter (which is basically a rebranded DSPIAE one). It's not cheap, but boy did I miss out on this all these years. It's day and night in comparison with my trusty Xuron cutter. Hopefully it won't take me a whole year again to update this

Congratulations on the arrival of Eléonore! I'm sure she'll make you proud buddy.
My eyes hurt just looking at the detail let alone trying to build it. Amazing stuff.

My best congratulations to the whole family! Gives you a bit of perspective of the importance of things!
However, if you have 4 kids, how on earth you find any time for modelling? And above all: what an amazing kind of modelling! As always, just brilliant work!

Wouts, congratulations on the birth of Eléonore! And yes, Eléonore of Aquitaine was a mighty historical figure, indeed. I just picked up her biography at my favorite used book spot. And I am speechless regarding the work on this project. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ffs. I feel so ashamed to say i am modelling kits after looking at this build. The quality of your work is excellent! My favorite kind of kits are ships, but i rarely dare to build one. Will be waiting for an update! You have me thinking about starting one....
