Yes it is hard to judge the outlay Bill, unfortunatly i`ve spent more in tools than parts so far.........i`m trying to be sensible and budget as best as poss but like all things the next stage requires the kings shilling before you can proceed any further........i`m in no rush so i`ll deal with each stage as i go along, i could quite easily rush headlong into it and spends loads of money but that would be a silly move...........if i can salvage as much as poss rather than go down the total renew route i should be able to keep it within reason.......hopefully

That was a problem with my SX. The disc brake front hub was long gone and a replacement was like hen's teeth. So I had to settle for a drum setup 😡

I think nowdays parts are a lot more available as they have started to be reproduced due to the rise in interest of the scooter enthusiast........i believe originol drawings have been obtained which has opened up the market a bit more in replicating panels and such like to the exact dimensions, i did look into a disc conversion for this one...........until i saw the price!!!! , i`ll stick with drum system for now
I`ve just ordered the above internal parts for the front drum/hub and that came to about £40.00..........then i had to buy another feckin` special tool to fit the bearings.
I suppose now i`m gonna have to go into the scooter building business to justify all these tools i`m gonna end up with ........i know you can drift some bearings and such like in with other methods but i don`t wanna risk knackering them by cutting corners, at the end of the day i can always re-sell them if i only do this one

You're right about the parts, fella. When I think about all the stuff I rebuilt and repaired back in the day which are now available, it kind of pi$$es me off. Your drum look very nice by the way.

I think the restoration business is quite a big thing now whether it be cars, bikes etc and manufacturers are catching on.........i couldn`t believe how many companies do the parts for these Lambrettas, i was expecting a difficult time in sourcing bits and pieces but that ain`t the case it seems......i think it`s a good thing but certainly not cheap in certain aspects, i`m glad i`m doing this and not a big classic car

Thanks Tommy Bit of bad news...........just stripped the top part of the headset back to bare metal and found a nasty crack in it , i can`t buy just the top part as they come as a complete unit and bloody expensive, did source a top half but it`s in Belgium and the postage will be stupid money!! , my only option is to try and get it repaired somehow but being aluminium makes it a PITA coz i can`t weld alu.....i might be able to do a fill repair using a metal filler possibly but i`ll have to see

I'm not sure it's aluminium Boots. That could be mazak, toy metal, if it is you're going down the filler, Miliput route😁 I would go that way cos if it's the top it's not structural.
