I primed the Viggen this week and I used Model Master Dark Ghost Grey which will be the top coat, anyways. I sanded out a few more bad spots and then I added the canards to the model. These actually fit really well and I didn't even need filler for the joint. I did cut the flaps on the canards as photos showed those usually dropped when on the ground. I have a little more sanding to do and then it will be time for proper camo. Stay tuned..... Regards, Ian

Thanks, Boots! Yeah, I agree.....SAAB really made a work of art when they designed the Viggen as it was truly a great aircraft.

I have made some painting progress on the Viggen. Although SAAB uses their own colors I went with FS 36320 Dark Ghost Grey (Model Master Enamel) for the top and FS 36495 Light Grey (Vallejo) for the bottom and it appears to be a good match. I lightened some panels with FS 36375 Light Ghost Grey since they appeared to fade alot like U.S. Navy jets. Photos also showed where the paint on the 1/1 scale birds had darkened from moisture spots on the upper-surfaces and around recesses so I replicated those by spraying some Life Color Italian AF Grey around those areas. I then started drawing on the panel lines so stay tuned. Regards, Ian

Thank you gents! I did some additional post-shading on the Viggen since alot of photos indicated the paint really darkened in spots where moisture had really settled in. I also post-shaded the panel lines with Tamiya Smoke applied at low pressure with a #1 Tip on the airbrush. I painted the thrust reverser assembly with Acryl Jet Exhaust which is a great color but very hard to find now. I also added some streaks and leaks using oil shades of Black, Grey and Burnt Umber. Alot of streaks were added underneath as it appears the undersides of the grey Viggens got pretty grimy. The wheel bays on the Viggens are silver so that was painted with Vallejo Natural Metal which went on smoothly. Anyway, I am about ready to move on to the sub-assemblies. Best wishes, Ian
