Thanks for the kind words, gents. So I am starting work on the sub-assemblies for the Viggen since most of the painting and weathering is done. I noted the JA- version carried a four-fin drop tank instead of the three-fin carried by the AJ- attack version. Unfortunately only the three-fin is supplied in the kit so it was mod-time. I filled in the slot for the top fin since it would not be used and made four new fins out of sheet stock, using one of the kit fins for a template. They fit fine and I attached them with some Tamiya cement. Stay tuned...

I made some progress on the Viggie but just hadn't had time to post anything yet. The sub-assemblies are completed so I am about ready to put all this together. The Viggen I am depicting is one of the updated ones from the late 90's that was AMRAAM capable so I found some launch rails in the spares box which came from the Kinetic F-16. The AIM-120 AMRAAMs themselves are Hasegawa and they came from the spares box as well. This Viggen will also be carrying AIM-9M Sidewinders so I used two Monogram ones which also came from the spares box. After building alot of missiles over the years I am running out of decal stripes so I painted the live ordinance stripes on the missiles using brown and yellow Model Master paint. I finished up the Neomega ejection seat which was a really beautiful piece of resin. The seat was painted with Vallejo Silver for the frame and Vallejo SAC Green for the cushions. The seat was then given a wash of Pledge Floor Wax diluted with black paint. I made intake and exhaust covers out of sheet stock and these were painted yellow, as seen in some photos. Photos showed grey gear struts and bay doors so I used Life Color Barley Gray which was a close match for the actual ones in the photos. Next will be a gloss coat and decals so stay tuned.

Thanks, Marco!!! Well, the million dollar question for this project was whether or not the 15+ year old Airfix decals would still be good and were they ever. The decals were applied and laid down perfectly with no silvering over the gloss coat. I do have one bit of cleanup to do as there was a raised punch mark on the left intake lip that protrudes a tad bit forward of the intake cover line so I popped the cover off and will sand that defect down today. Getting close!!!
