Since the FB-111 is getting close to the finish line I decided to crack open another jet so I have one to work on in the construction phase. I decided to start the 1/48th scale Airfix JA-37 Viggen which is a re-box of the ESCI AJ/JA-37 Viggen from years ago. The kit has raised panel lines and a fairly simplistic cockpit tub but the on a positive note the kit is known for it's generally accurate shape (probably more accurate in some spots than the Special Hobby and Tarangus offerings). I do have a Neomega resin bang-seat for the model and it is really a beautifully cast part. I applied some primer to the seat and I also painted the cockpit tub light grey, per the photo references. I will use the Airfix decals for the side consoles and instrument panel since there isn't any raised detail to paint. I also added some of the vents and panels to the fuselage and assembled the intakes as well. Anyway, stay tuned. Regards, Ian

Nice bang seat, and the old kit looks cleanly produced despite it's age

This is another classic kit Ian, looks good when finished too. Are you going to rescribe the details?

Thanks for watching gents!
Marco---I am going to do the two-tone grey interceptor scheme with the Day-Glo "47" ID number. That scheme weathered a lot much like US Navy jets and I enjoy doing the tonal variations.
Steve---By my own admission, I suck at scribing so I will keep the raised panel lines and draw them with a pencil and then shade them.
Best wishes, everyone!
Ian

Another master-piece in the makin`..........count me in How do you go about the pencil/panel lines trick then Ian.........i`m not a wingy builder so `im intrigued just in case i ever do put some wings together So, to draw them I will use a 0.5 Pentel lead pencil. In order to draw them correctly (curves or straight lines) I will take 3M 2090 tape (the blue one) and stack two pieces on top of each other to make a thicker piece. I then cut strips of varying lengths to make mini-rulers to draw the panel lines. As the pieces lose their tack, just cut new strips. Happy modeling, Ian

I made some progress on the JA-37 Viggen. The cockpit was painted Light Ghost Grey as photos show the tubs on these are a very light grey. I just used the decal placards from the kit for the consoles and instrument panel. The tub itself is a little sparse but the Neomega bang-seat will definitely liven things up. As usual, I could not leave the model well enough alone (probably need Paul to come along and give me a good 17/21 Lancers smack across the head). The ESCI JA-37 Viggen is actually based on the AJ-37 Viggen fuselage. The JA-37 is actually a tad longer for the different power plant so the fuselage is extended between the back of the canards and the leading edge of the wing so enter the razor saw. I cut the fuselage and fortunately there is a panel line there and it is a very easy cut. I fashioned a spacer out of sheet stock and this will be added between the two sections to correct the fuselage length. Stay tuned...... Regards, Ian

Thanks for stopping in everyone! I worked on the front fuselage section and got that assembled and it actually fit very well. I also installed the intakes which have some small gaps but I can probably shim those area with some sheet stock. The moment of truth was installing the fuselage plug but it looks like my measurement was very close and it fit nicely to the forward section. Stay tuned............ Regards, Ian
