She certainly looks good Wouts . The smokey mottling effect of that pre-shading looks awesome, I hope we will still see this later Well, I can tell you the smokey mottling has it's effect, though it's very subtle so not sure if the camera captured that well. But it's there Thanks for the comments chaps. Next up: before starting masking for the camouflage I had to add a black band next the yellow one on the tail. I didn't want to use plain black though because it's...well too black to be black . So I mixed Tamiya Flat Black with a bit of Nato black - which is more of a very dark grey. Job done I think Next up, masking for the camouflage scheme (and yes, that's where I used blu-tack rolls - this was before I had the new great masking putty) The camouflage was then sprayed on in light coats not to cover up the black basing completely. I used Gunze H69 (RLM75 Grau) and H68 (RLM74 Dunkel Grau). The funny thing about those German airplane colors is that over the years (keep in mind this is only my second wingy ) I ordered so many bottles of RLM66, RLM74 and RLM75 that I can start an airplane sprayworks. Each and every time I thought I didn't have the color yet, and now I have like 4 bottles of each...quite a D'oh moment Anywhoo: this is how the camouflage turned out Just to finish things up, when I removed the blu tack it looked like this: and in the wheel wells Luckily, on the fuselage I could remove it with an eraser, and most of the blutack was removed using tweasers and a stiff brush slightly moistened with odourless thinner. On to the mottling now ^^

Despite the mishap with Blutack, she looks darned good . The idea with smokey effect is one I shall defo try out, but I reckon with heavy handed painting there won't be left to see . I noticed that the blutack looks like the white version? I have never used the white one, and I can say that the original blue blutack is much more forgiving.

Looking very good Wouts. I sometimes use masking tape to remove bits and pieces. I find if you tap the sticky side of the tape on the bit you want to remove, it sticks to the tape nicely.

Thanks guys, Indeed, thin coats of paint are to be used, otherwise you'd cover up all of your previous work ^^ About the blu-tack: yup the white version, I think the one I used was rebranded by Wilder if I'm not mistaken, bought it many moons ago. Anywhoo, that stuff got ditched now Masking tape to remove the bits: that would have worked as well I reckon, plenty of the sticky tape here

Thanks for your appreciation chaps, and Guy: So, after the paintwork I tried to spray the mottle camouflage. I used two colors: RLM74 Dunkel Grau and RLM70 Schwarz Grün. I thinned the paint heavily and tried to spray it on gently using my 0.2 nozzle and low air pressure. It's still a bit hit and miss and I guess practice makes perfect. Not 100% perfect how it looks, but I'm not totally unhappy either. I forgot to take a photo before the varnish application, so only one of the bare bird with gloss varnish applied. So, after the mottling I sprayed on VMS gloss varnish. Application goes against everything I knew of spraying varnishes, but it sure works out well. So between 1.5 and 2 bar (approx 20 - 30 psi) - which is a lot for me - I sprayed it onto the model. The VMS varnishes need to be sprayed on very very wet (without pooling around details of course) and it needs to remain wet for a couple of minutes. It's self leveling properties are amazing and it really gives you a very strong gloss coat. And so, we arrived to the fun part of airplanes: Right, decals . And we have plenty. 70+ to be applied, and I spent a large portion of the day applying them. To make the decals conform details and all I used Mr. Mark Softer (the original strong one, not the 'NEO' one) because I found in the past that the Microscale SOL wasn't always doing what it supposed to do. The decals sit nice around details, the larger o decals needed a couple of applications. The Mr. Mark Softer attacked the coat of varnish in some places - probably where the coat was a bit thinner. But nothing which a bit of sanding can't set straight. And thus, she starts to look as Franz Dörrs ride: The tail swastikas were a two part affair - which is quite annoying (I think I bought this kit from a German seller). Voila, ready for some satin varnish and then: jolly good fun
