Smart.
I’m a bit surprised you painted the cobbles before adding the debris.

Smart. I’m a bit surprised you painted the cobbles before adding the debris. I did it to try a new technique and for the practice, plus it was fun.

Hello All Had a busy time this week away on a business trip, so unfortunately not much modelling time. I managed to do a little bit this morning. First up I felt that the dark wash on the top flagstones wasn't creating enough contrast. I had an Army Painter brand dark tone wash so on it went and it makes such a difference. I also have a green tone one so I used that on the vertical stone face between the flagstones and the pavement. Subtle but visually effective. Then it was on with a dry brushing of an acrylic mid tone grey. It really made the texture pop and create great depth. Next will be a very light white drybrush on the high points. Then I started working on the broken sewer pipe. This was completed using only AK pencils and an adaptation of a technique I saw on YT. It uses combos of 8 colours and gradually builds up depth and texture. IT's very easy to do and creates a great effect. This pic is of work in progress, will post the finished ones later. I also have some 1/35 scale brick, cobblestone and slate tile moulds, and I've been casting up a storm. I add a small amount of black Indian ink in to plaster mix, so you get a nice light grey colouring. That way when you break them up you don't get the annoying white plaster on the inside. That's all for now, will hopefully have a short update later on tonight. Cheers Mark

Hello All, another quick update on progress. Since yesterday I've been working om creating some timber debris for the scene. It started off as balsa strips. They first received a coating of black acrylic. Then it was built up with a number of thin coats with new wood, old wood, light wood, medium brown. It was then finished with a wash of medium rust. Still working out whether it needs a black/brown wash to being out the grain. Then it was on to finishing off the broken brick wall. The bricks were given a medium brown wash to tie them together. Then the stucco/plaster areas were given a base of light grey. Then i used a creamish colour for a light wash. Then I used sunny skintone to lighten it up and stippled it on with a bit of sponge. That was lightened a couple more times and applied. Lastly, I filled the crater area with some N guage ballast and then used the VMS ballast freeze to lock it into place. The foam had been covered originally in a PVA coat , primer and then the ballast, so I thought I'd risk it with the Mig mud washes (enamel based). The pics below show it not long after the washes had been appied and wet blended. I'm please to report that since it's dried there has only been a tiny bit of of melt and if anything it's made it look quite natural.......phew!! All the bits and pieces are coming together nicely. Looking forward to this all coming together. Cheers Mark

Jaw has hit the floor Mark , that is simply a master-class in base making I could be fooled into thinking some of the those shots could be from a `Patio/driveway` magazine/brochure

Hi All, apologies for the mass response to everyone, but I'm at work and I better not spend all day on here!!
Thank you all for the amazing feedback on the progress. It certainly does top up the modelling mojo.
I'm happy to share my techniques, so if you'd like me to share colours, methods, etc I'd be happy to elaborate more in the posts. Or if you want to send me a message about a particular thing then I'd be happy to help out.
Cheers
Mark
