The masking looks excellent, Paul. The transparencies will look great when it’s time to remove the tape.

Bert, Tommy, Joe, Ian, thank you all kindly fellas . Well, I said this morning we might get the black undersides today, here it is Tamiya Nato Black XF69 with a good drop of Tamiya X-22 gloss. The gloss was added purely to stop the Nato Black from going fuzzy, as Tamiya paints sometimes do when sprayed .

The black looks solid and not fuzzy. Fuzziness can be reduced a little by spraying under low pressure. It's the airflow which dryblows the paint particles in their way to the surface.

Great progress on the Mossie! And what a masking job on that tiny canopy! Masking canopies just using a scalpel scares me but I didn’t recently see an interesting technique of applying the masking tape and then rubbing a pencil over it so you get a set of lines as a guide. Take the masking tape of and then cut the pieces out.

Guy cheers mushty . I'm so sure if the pressure is the problem, I spray all my paints at the same pressure and only Tamiya does the fuzzy furry thing. Jase, that is what I do on the glazing . Except I use a cocktail stick to push the tape into the corners and along the lines and I also cut it in situ .

Except I use a cocktail stick to push the tape into the corners and along the lines and I also cut it in situ . Sorry should have made that clearer. The technique still uses the cocktail stick to get raised lines but then uses a pencil to get a ‘brass rubbing’. The next step is take the tape off and then cut along the lines made to produce the masks. I was interested in it as I did once try it in situ and let’s say it didn’t go well. Thinking about it I have got a Lancaster build that I completely mucked up so I could use that for practice parts with your method.

...And a lesson on canopy masking learnt, Thanks guys. Not sure about that from me. I’ve not tried the pencil method but I like the idea that the worst that can happen is it doesn’t work. For in situ the worse that can happen, as I found out, is you ruin the canopy!

I'm assuming we are talking about Tamiya's acrylic? If so then here are 2 tips that you may already know to help with the "Tamiya fuzzies" 1.Remove your needle guard. This will make you spray pattern smaller and wetter, helping the paint lay down and, reduce tip clogging 2. Try some Mr.Colour Leveling Thinner. The stuff is amazing 🙂

Looking great but judging by the masking story the 'simple easy build' turned out a little bit more tricky then expected 😁 Usually "simple easy builds" are never like that... there's always something unexpected coming along
