Well, I made some model progress since we have a hurricane going on. I worked on the Mk. IV Series II portion of the project and got the wings assembled and attached to the fuselage. The Airfix wheel bays are not nearly as detailed as the Tamiya bays and the landing gear assembly was quite problematic. Nonetheless, the struts were beaten into submission and I got everything squared up. The wing root seam was so-so and there may be two spots I have to shim with sheet stock. I attached a shot of the bulged bomb bay and I think I will build the 4000 lb. "Cookie" bomb which comes with the kit and put it on a scratch built bomb cart to go with the plane. The extended nacelles for the two-stage Merlin engines fit pretty well although I will have to sand a little on the top of the wing towards the back. I plan to work on the wings for the Tamiya FB.VI next. Best wishes, Ian

Coming together nicely! I'm always tempted to have a go at aircraft, but the expenditure on a completely new family of paints stays my hand!

I have a small update on the Mossies. The Airfix Mk. IV Series II with two-stage Merlin engines (on left) is ready for primer. I got the horizontal stabs on and most of the blemishes ironed out so I will try to get some Primer Grey on her this week. The Tamiya FB. VI on the right (converted from their Mk. IV kit by adding the Airfix gun nose and modifying the cockpit) was hit with some Primer Grey today and there are just a few spots to blend in slightly. The Tamiya landing gear snaps in as one assembly so I will probably leave the mains off until after it is painted. So both are progressing and almost ready to get to the fun part. Best wishes, Ian

Steve, the glass-nose MK IV Series II on the left with the long nacelles will be in Dk.Green/Grey over black from 627 Squadron (Pathfinders). The one on the right will be an anti-shipping rocket striker from 235 Squadron of the Banff Strike Wing with Extra Dark Sea Grey over Sky camo and full invasion stripes.
Best wishes,
Ian

I have a minor update for the FB. VI Mossie portion of this project. I have added the invasion stripes; my plan being to get them on the model in their entirety, mask them off and then apply the camo to the rest of the aircraft. I used Enamel White and Enamel Black thinned with Metalizer thinner so the paint dries almost instantly and doesn't allow for bleed-through. The stripes were masked off with Washi Tape (rice paper tape from Amazon which is identical to Tamiya Tape except you can get forty rolls of Washi Tape for one roll of Tamiya Tape, price-wise). I also got the Airfix gun-nose cap on the model and it fit perfectly so that indicates the Airfix and Tamiya Mossies are pretty close, dimensions-wise. I will let the stripes cure up and then it will be time for some Extra Dark Sea Grey and Sky. Best wishes, Ian

Well sprayed fella . What brand of metalizer thinner are you using?

Thank you, Paul! I use the old Model Master Metalizer Thinner because it's a little "hotter." Maybe hard to find though since most of the Model Master Line is now defunct.
Best wishes,
Ian
