I'll risk it for a biscuit.
I did the black trick on my T34 and landscape gardening, if memory serves me right. You will have no problems and will be able to add tons more colour.
Good luck!

Hi All Well, I've done it, i've gone dark! Wow was that a funny feeling when the first of the black started to obscure all the colour on the base. It's quite disconcerting to begin with, but I guess you need faith and follow the NightShift way. I guess you can say that the hard bit is over with, and the fun begins. Well I blinking well hope so Cheers Mark

If all fails you can always leave it all black and call it a night time diorama...

Hi All It's been a busy few weeks but this evening after work I managed to get some time in the shed. So the next step of the process is to create the grass colour. So first up I used some Tamiya Field Grey to create the base grass colour. You can see how the black base really creates shadow and depth. Then I added some German Yellow to lighten the Field Grey and made a pass over the grassy areas to create some highlights and increase the contrast. Then I added some flat white and then created some random highlights on the longer grass tufts. The pictures below don't really show the subtle shade differences, but they're then....honest. This step does create a bit of overspray, but that will be taken care of during the next couple of steps. Until next time. Cheers Mark

Thanks for the comments after the first step, most appreciated as this is the first time i've tried this technique. So, on to the next step. I managed to sneak an hour after work today and carried on with the next step. I mixed up some Tamiya Buff with enamel thinners (So it can handle the following steps without failing) then applied it to the base. It was sprayed on to the ground area surrounding the grassy area. I thinned the mix so it covers but still allows the nlack base to show through. Hopefully I can work on the next step tomorrow, so keep an eye out. Cheers Mark
