Evening/morning all As hoped, I managed to get a couple of hours in the workroom this afternoon allowing me to do another couple of steps. First up was using two mud tones (Enamel based) on the bare ground areas on the base. I put the lighter colour down first with a brush and while It was still wet i added the darker tone and blended it in. The darker tone was used mainly as a shadow effect. Once that was just about dried I used a combo of acrylic colours (old wood, new wood, light wood, medium grey, light grey and Iraqi sand) to paint the larger stones. Using the same combos i also picked out medium and smaller stones / pebbles. It was quite relaxing picking them out while listening to some sounds. The light is not the best on the workroom for taking pics, but I hope you can see the changes over the last couple of steps. As usual it looks much better to the human eye......honest guv! Well, there's still 2-3 steps left and hopefully i can knock 1 or 2 of them out tomorrow. Until next time Cheers Mark

It's like watching a Night shift video. Plus, I get to say "I told you so." It's a lot of fun isn't it?

Yep you were right, it's a great process and the outcome so far makes it look far more realistic and provides a lot more depth. Plus the grass looks far better when you lose the bright colours. Got to love Night Shift and his weekly updates of modelling joy!

Magnificent work on that base. I might have to try that technique on some 1/72 scale bases to see if it works just as well.

Great looking base, Mark, and very realistic how you depicted the track impressions through the terrain.

Evening / Morning All Over the last few evening I have been working on the next steps for the base. As the title of the dio is "Winter is Coming:" let it snow let it snow let it snow. I had a few practice runs to find the best method and I landed on the following. Step 1: cover a small section of the base with a good soaking of VMS sand/ballast fixer. Step 2: Sprinkle snow effect product (Purchased from Dio Dump - other brands are available ) over the soaked area. For the little bushes drop some on top to make it look like snow has settled on them. Step 3: Sprinkle Deluxe Materials Icy Sprinkles over the snow powder. Step 4: Finish off with a light sprinkling of autumn leaf scatter. As the scatter leaches a little it creates a bit of muddy slushy colour. Here's the work to date. I'm leaving it for a couple of days and may do a little more, or may just leave it as is. Then I just couldn't resist putting the Kitty on to see how it looks so far. Until next time. Cheers Mark

Excellent indeed Mark Are you going to add a dusting of snow on the Tiger? Hi Paul, Yes the Tiger will get a suitable dusting, but there's a little twist coming to finish off the dio off, so standby.
